2015/16 News Stories
2015/16 Photos Now Available
The league has been collecting high-quality game action photos for ages, and the long awaited process of publishing has begun. I
have started uploading images from the 2015/16 season. So far there are more than 230 pics from this season that have been released, but this is really just the tip of the iceberg.
Continue checking back over the coming weeks as plenty more are on their way. These pictures are currently untagged, so for the moment you'll just have to dig through all of them to find what you're looking for.
The tagging process will come after the season is fully uploaded. To see the
pics, click here.
Ghostriders win "B" Div Championship!
Ghostriders captured the "B" division title in a hard fought final
series against the North Van Mercenaries that went to a winner-take-all third
game. After being involved in a a series of wild shootout games earlier in the
playoffs, the Riders showed they could indeed win with defense and goaltending
as they held the Merc's to three goals combined in the last two games. Derek
Smith was a huge difference maker between the pipes for the Riders, particularly
in the championship game when the team was heavily out shot. However the
"B" div Playoff MVP is unquestionably Ian Banks, who looked like the
elite scoring threat he was in his prime scoring years. He finished with an
impressive 9 goals and 12 points in just 5 games. If that production wasn't
enough, he was also the GWG scorer in both Ghostriders wins in the final. This
is the team's second NWBHL championship, with their first win coming in the
Spring 2012 season. Click the picture to the left to see the full size team championship photo.
Giants win 4th "A" Div Championship!
The Surrey Giants made it four NWBHL Fall season titles in a row with their win
over the Pirates on Saturday, to complete a two game series sweep. This team's
depth is incredible, and that was on full display in the final as they ran a
17 man lineup at the Pirates, and were successfully able to wear them down
with lengthy stretches of ball possession. Herman Sunner took Playoff MVP
honours with 5 goals in the final, and 9 points in 4 total playoff games.

Playoff Week in Review - Week 3
The Giants punched their ticket to the "A" div Final in dramatic
fashion as an overtime goal from Simran Bhatti moved them past the Wolfpac.
The win was a big come-from-behind effort as the Giants would find themselves
trailing this game 3-0 after the first period. Shaun Kalkat would factor in to
the comeback, scoring a pair in the second half before Paul Grewal tied the
game with under three minutes remaining to set the stage for the OT victory.
The Ghostriders and Mercenaries started their
"B" Finals with the same explosive offense that has been on display
in the division during the earlier playoff games. The Mercenaries would draw
first blood in the series, squeaking out a 6-5 win after trailing by a pair of
goals a couple of times in the game. Myles Scott and Karson Levack each picked
up three points in the victory, while Jason Makowski and Waseem Khalil did
likewise for the Riders in the loss. The Mercenaries will try to wrap up their
first NWBHL title this Saturday, while the Ghostriders look to extend the series to Sunday.

Game Video Archive
Thanks to the tremendous work put in this year by Tsui, the league videographer, we now have an
extensive, and ever expanding archive of game video available for viewing. Long
time fans know to find this footage on our forum board or her personal YouTube
channel, but the Ndub home page has been missing an organized game archive
page. That situation has now been rectified as you can find the entire 2015/16
catalogue of games by clicking here. There is a now permanent link to the
archive in the navigation section to the left of the page, as well. A new link
to the previously somewhat hidden Player Search feature is now included in the
navigation area also.
*Parking Alert* - Hometown Hockey
This upcoming weekend
(Feb 13/14) sees the Hometown Hockey Tour making a stop in our
very own Queen's Park! Exciting as that is, it means that the parking conditions will be insane for our Saturday night slate of games. Players are urged to car pool, and give yourself an extra
20 minutes to find parking outside of the park. We're not sure how long into the evening their festivities will carry, but better safe than sorry!
Whalers Debut Jerseys
| The West Coast Whalers debuted their long awaited
new jersey set this past week. They are a noticeable improvement over the ragtag
collection of random black jerseys the club had been wearing previously.
Taz Dhillon Notches His 500th Point!
Taz Dhillon of the Vancity Ghostriders becomes
the latest 500 point man in Northwest League history. He achieved the feat
early into the Jan 9th game vs the East Van Saints, capping the match with a 1
goal, 2 assist effort. Taz began his career in the league in 2000/01 with a
two game appearance with the Stingrays. He would join the league for
real during the 2002/03 campaign as part of the expansion Surrey Thrashers. In
that first season, playing on a legendary line with Bill Cheema and Tony
Hoonjan, Taz would compile an amazing 63 points in 18 games! Though most of
his career has been spent with that powerhouse Thrashers team, he has also had
brief stints with the Rays, Wolverines, and now the Ghostriders. For a more
detailed look at his career numbers, check out the link below. Congrats goes
out to Taz Dhillon for reaching this milestone!
'Tis The Season!
The Northwest Ball Hockey League wishes you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We will see you back in the Arenex on January 2nd, 2016!
Clappers Move Up / Panthers Move Down
There has been a minor readjustment to the divisional alignment
as the Clappers have earned promotion to the "A" division, while the
Panthers return to "B". The book remains open for now on the final
version of the divisions. I will get more of the schedule posted shortly,
though the original plan to have the entire schedule up may have to be
scuttled. All six "A" teams will make playoffs, with the top two
earning a first round bye. The top four teams in "B" will compete in
Ray Diesel Joins the 600 Point Club!
Ray Diesel of the West End Pirates, becomes the
eighth player in league history to hit the 600 point mark. He has had an
impressive career, spanning 29 NWBHL seasons, beginning way back in the Spring
of '97 with the Delta Vikings. After lighting it up with them, he was snatched
up by the Barons, where he would spend the majority of his career, while also
getting in a handful of games with the Buzz, Rage, Stingrays and now Pirates.
For a detailed look at his career numbers, click the link below. Congrats go out to
Ray for this impressive milestone!
Divisional Alignment Announced
| As the first third of the season draws to a close,
the time has now come to announce the divisional alignment moving forward. We
will be separating the league into two divisions of six teams each. Each team
will still cross over to play the opponents of the other div one time each,
with the remainder of the 18 game schedule to be played within the division.
There were many considerations that went into choosing which teams that would
go where, including team experience, roster depth and top end potential,
regardless of any team's current record. With that said , the six teams
selected for the "A" Division are the Giants, Jaguars, Panthers,
Pirates, Warhawks and Wolfpac, with the Clappers, Ghostriders, Mercenaries,
Rage, Saints, Whalers now comprising the "B" division. Should one of
the named "B" division teams have a major breakout during the coming
schedule and surpass one of the "A" teams in development, the league
reserves the right to make another alignment move, should it prove necessary.
With the divisions now set, the entire league schedule will be posted shortly.
Saints Debut Jerseys
It took longer than expected, but the Saints will finally debut their team jerseys this week, joining
a host of other teams that have gone with new jersey sets this year. For those that were not aware, you can see each team's colours and
contact info on our Team Info page.

Hornets Change Name To Whalers
| With the conclusion of their Surrey Central season, the Hornets have decided to retire that name and
re-brand themselves as the West Coast Whalers. Upon the
selection of the Whalers moniker and logo, team GM Jayme Manhas was quoted
as saying "We're bringing them back into relevance". This change
will take effect immediately.
Just a heads up for everyone that the city has been
actively handing out tickets for parking violations in the park. One of our
players was dinged with a hefty fine just a couple of weeks ago. Please
refrain from parking on the yellow lined areas as seen in the attached
New Season Of Game Video
| I am pleased to be able to announce a new season contract
signed with our host broadcaster, the mega-conglomerate broadcast channel,
TSUI! In all seriousness, Tsui has been working her tail off for several years
to bring us some fantastic quality, high definition, ball hockey action. She
puts in countless hours to shoot, edit, and post these games, along with some
other assorted "Best Of" videos. To welcome everybody back for the
new season, she recorded all four games from the opening week. I will post the
links to each of them below, and you can find subsequent games both on our
Forum Board, as well as her channel on You Tube, located here.
Next time you see her, please take a minute to say thanks, and let her know
her efforts are appreciated.
New Teams Added / Format Update
We had previously mentioned the Surrey Wolfpac team that was trying to put things together for
a late entry bid.
Not only have they confirmed, but they will now be joined by yet another new
addition to the NDub roster, the West Side Pirates. Though they are making
their debut in this league, the team, is stocked with high end talent and are
a legitimate championship threat. The team is being run by none other than
Marcel Lafortune, himself a league legend. Fittingly, the Pirates and Wolfpac
will make their debuts against one another this Saturday at 9:30. It should be
The league now has 12 teams and this will bring about a minor
change to the previously announced format, with six teams now making the
"A" div, after the divisional separation which will occur after the
first third of the season. The top two teams will each get a first round bye.
"B" div playoff remain unchanged, with the top four making the
playoffs. The first four or five games of each team's schedule are now posted.
Warhawks and Mercenaries to Debut New Looks
Action Begins This Saturday!
The countdown is on, as we are now officially under a
week away from opening night for the 2015/16 Northwest League season. The
first week of the schedule is expected to be posted Monday night, after a
couple of final teams solidify their status. The full league roster will also
be unveiled at that time. In the mean time, we do have a
couple of new teams to introduce. I'd like to extend a warm welcome to both
the East Van Saints and the B.C. Clappers Club, which will both begin their
inaugural Ndub campaigns on Saturday.
