Wolfpac and Storm Win Championships!

The Surrey Wolfpac returned to the winner's circle as they claimed the NWBHL "A" Div Championship by downing the Surrey Giants in a hard fought Finals series that went to a deciding game three. This title win by the Wolfpac was their first in the league since the 2010/11 season, and it ends a string of four consecutive Fall season titles by the Giants. The team also made some history as for the first time in the Ndub, the Playoff MVP was shared. Mike Sanghara and Brenden Ham were both dazzling, not only in this game, but throughout the entire playoff run. Sanghara finished with numbers of 6-8-5-13 (including an OT winner!), while Ham also had an impressive 5-6-7-13 stat line. The two players also finished the playoffs tied with 45 points in the 3 star standings for the post season. Both were deservong winners of the Playoff MVP. Dean Salsnek also lived up to his big game billing as he stood on his head, turning away the Giants on multiple quality scoring chances in the early going. Team captain Tony Chohan also showed his leadership with a pair of huge goals in the decisive game, including the late insurance goal that put the game on ice. This is the fourth "A" championship and fifth overall for the Wolfpac in the Northwest League! (Click image for full size version of team picture)

The Surdel Storm defeated the Delta Titans 6-3 to win the "B" Div Championship. This team perservered throughout their entire playoff run as they took the most difficult path possible to the title. The Storm downed the Saints in the "Play-In Game" that would determine the final playoff seed, before having to face the top seeded team in the division, the Outsiders. After the Storm dropped the opening game of that series 1-0 in OT, they would have to face a pair of do-or-die games, both of which they won. As if things hadn't been difficult enough, the Storm pulled a virtual no-show in the first game of the Final, losing 8-0 to the Titans. Undeterred, the Storm once again played with the mentality of a team that was staring down elimination, and they came back with a pair of clutch defensive efforts to win the series and the "B" championship in the third game of the Finals. Playoff MVP goes to Storm backstopper Ami Gill, who was consistently excellent for the club (outside the 8-0 loss). He went 5-2 with a 2.96 GAA and .873 Save %. Although those numbers are solid, it's worth noting that without the 8-0 loss, his stats read 2.55 and .906, respectively. Definitely MVP caliber goatending! The team shared the offensive load, but Vesal Mohmand was a consistent offensive threat, and led the team with 7-3-5-8, including a pair of key snipes in the final game, including the cup winner! Rob Moxness and Raheem Khan also chipped in 7 point each for the Storm along the way, both providing important offensive contributions. Though this is the first championship under the banner of the Surdel Storm, the bulk of this lineup has been a part of a pair of title wins for the Vancity Ghostriders.
